What we’ve covered:
During the Week of 9/22 – 26, we:

• We finished Senior Checks with Ms. Bussey
• Seniors have been attending Information Seminars from colleges
• We took the District MAP pre-tests
• We took the Formative Mini-Assessments which focused on Inference and Context
• Finished watching Rear Window
• Were assigned the Rear Window essay, which is due October 1^st and 2^nd.

 

We also went to the computer lab, where, as a whole group, we:

• Reviewed how to create Powerpoint Presentations
• Reviewed in Word how to format font style and size for Ms. Lancer’s choice: Arial 12
• Reviewed in Word how to set up our paragraphs in ‘block style’ double-spaced, which is Ms. Lancer’s choice.

 

The week of  9/15 – 9/19 in Ms. Lancer’s English IV class, we worked on:

 

·         Turning in the essays: Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder (due Mon & Tues)

·         Discussing Camera Angles, & reviewing film terms in Springboard pages 31 – 32.

·         Completing the Character list for Rear Window

·         Viewing Rear Window & taking character, plot & theme notes

·         Reflecting in our journals:  What is L.B. Jeffries opinion about marriage?

·         Using a Pre-writing strategy in our journals to reflect on: Who are the voyeurs in this film?

·         Viewing Rear Window & taking notes

·         Having Senior Checks with Ms. Bussey

 

 

The week of 9/8 -9/12 in Ms. Lancer’s class, we

·         Wrote and turned in our Name poems

·         Viewed art and responded in our journals

·         Completed the “Information” & “More About Me” sheets

·         Wrote a paragraph defining our goals in English this year

·         Wrote our own credo

·         Listened to:

o    All I need to know I learned in Kindergarten

o    The Pact

o    Perception essays read aloud

 

·         Read our Springboard books, pp. 33 – 34 &  Unpacked the embedded assessment #1 “Creating a Photo Essay”

·         Viewed a sample Photo Essay

·         Brainstormed Photo essay topics

·         Took a formative mini-assessment about Author’s purpose and tone & reviewed it

·         Analyzed two poems about war

·         Viewed a scene from Charlotte’s Web & took notes

·         Wrote a 5 paragraph essay entitled Perception is Everything, Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder
